Mohave County Arizona is located in the northwest corner of the state, and has had various changes over time, finally settling into its present boundaries in 1881.

Mohave County

Mohave County is located on I-40, for easy access to Needles California to the west, and Flagstaff Arizona to the east. Lake Mead National Recreational Area, and Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument are two popular recreation areas in the north, while the county seat of Kingman and Lake Havasu City are in the southern part of the county. It’s an easy trip to Las Vegas, or to Phoenix, Flagstaff, and places beyond!

London Bridge!

Almost 50 years ago, the famed London Bridge - with its more than 22 million pounds of granite - was disassembled and shipped more than 10,000 miles from the UK and then re-assembled in it’s current home in Lake Havasu City. The bridge was originally completed in London in 1881 but was beginning to sink into the Thames river at the rate of one inch every eight years, causing frequent and increasingly expensive repairs. The city of London auctioned it off for a winning bid of $2.4 million dollars to Lake Havasu City founding father, and chainsaw company founder Robert P. McCullouch, Sr., who thought it would be a great attraction for the city. An extravagant grand opening and dedication was held in October 1971.

Today, the bridge sees as many as 20,000 visitors per day, both on top, and also below, on the channel of the Colorado River it spans. Crossing the bridge takes you to an island in the Colorado River, which is home to a campground, watercraft rentals, a marina, a resort, and other attractions.

Grand Canyon West!

The Grand Canyon West rim offers unique opportunities to view the Canyon. The famous “Glass Horseshoe” Skywalk has been a favorite since its opening in 2007. This glass-floor horseshoe shaped skywalk allows you to look straight down over 800 feet, and ultimately down over 3,600 feet to the Colorado River. You can also take helicopter tours from the west rim down to the canyon floor. I have personally walked the skywalk, and taken the helicopter ride, and I can say from first-hand experience that the views are breathtaking.
